Microsoft Corporation had launched Windows 7 operating system in India. Best new for Indian is, Windows 7 will be available at least 20% cheaper than in the US. The main purpose to offer Windows 7 Operating system at lower rate is to reduce piracy of windows operating system in India. It is believed that around 85% of Indians are using the pirated version of Windows operating systems. Windows 7 can, however, hit stores only after the firm resolves a tax dispute with the customs department over the interpretation of tax rules introduced in July on imported packaged software.

“Some emerging countries have a differential price, basically to tackle piracy. The new software is being priced one-third lower than Vista in India. We have launched Windows 7 in six editions, targeted at specific user groups,” says Ravi Venkatesan, Microsoft India chairman during the launch of Windows 7 in New Delhi on Thursday.
